DeWitt Technology Center and Small Business Incubator
The DeWitt Technology Center and Small Business Incubator, located in the DeWitt Industrial Park just north of Cuero on U. S. 183, was established by the DeWitt Community Development Foundation to promote the development of new businesses in DeWitt County and the surrounding area.
The Technology Center, built in 2002, is used for teaching classes and holding business meetings or seminars. It contains three offices for technology-based businesses, a large training room that can be divided into two smaller classrooms, an equipment room, restrooms, and a kitchen. Finley Barth, Technology Center Administrator, oversees all day-to-day operations.
The DeWitt Community Development Foundation, a nonprofit corporation was established in 1998 to enhance, promote, and improve the quality of life within the greater DeWitt Community. The Foundation's board is comprised of members from rural DeWitt County as well as the communities of Cuero, Yoakum, Yorktown, Nixon, and Westhoff. Companies interested in starting a business or locating in the DeWitt Industrial Park can obtain low-interest loans through the Foundation. Also, a revolving loan fund for business start-ups and business expansions is available. Recently, an agreement was reached with the University of Houston Small Business Development Center to provide business counseling.
The business incubator, located in the DeWitt Technology Building, is part of the DeWitt Community Development Foundation's economic development program to help small businesses get started in the area. It is a not-for-profit incubator. Offices are available at nominal rental fees, which are collected to pay for electricity, water and wastewater services, taxes, insurance and maintenance of the building. The Center has high-speed wireless Internet access.
